To Live And Die In Mongkok

Fai (Nick Cheung) grew up in Mongkok, where turf wars were frequently fought and gangsters killed each other mercilessly to secure their territories. Mongkok was also the place where legends and heroes were born. In the 1970s when Fai was just a teenager, everybody called him Junior. Yet he was already well known as a fearless killer among his triad society fellows. He was loyal, principled and always kept his word. When his closest friend, the cowardly Porky (Wai Ka Hung), was afraid to go on a killing mission, he took his place. After the killing spree, the rookie police constable Gunner () went to apprehend him but was so shocked that he even dropped his gun. Junior could have chopped him to death then, but he took pity on Gunner and let him go free. Ungratefully, Gunner shot Junior at the back, and arrested him. Gunner was promoted but Junior was put in jail for 30 years. However, this incident made him a Mongkok legend, a hero among triad society members who did not even know him.However, during his 30 years in prison, Fai had become a schizophrenic. His personality was split into two — one was the old fearless killer Junior; the other person, nicknamed Silly, was a timid, pacifist, indecisive middle-aged man who longed to get out of Mongkok and lived a quiet and peaceful life. When he was paroled and returned to Mongkok, Silly found the place changed beyond recognition. Even his mother (Paw Hee Ching) suffered from Alzheimer's disease and did not recognize him. In prison, Silly lost his freedom; but now back to Mongkok, he might even lose his life.At this time, the triad society to which he belonged 30 years ago was due to select a new boss. His friend Porky wanted to make use of Junior's legendary status to boost his popularity, while Peter (Patrick Tam), Porky's opponent, planned to get rid of Fai by soliciting help from Gunner. The trouble was that Fai was often dominated by Silly, who could not even sense the danger, not to speak of handling it. Could Fai avoid getting involved in a possible gang war and being harmed? Could he get out of Mongkok – a bigger and more dangerous prison ?
